“Any thought that transcends and soars will inevitably come crashing down;

the gravity of reality is too heavy.” ——Three Body Problems

"One day, I was watching Newton's Cradle, and it sparked a thought in me. What if these balls didn't adhere to the laws of physics? This is why I'm fascinated by animation—it transcends the boundaries of reality and aligns with the boundless realms of my imagination."

In this project, I try to make my favorite style, Risso, with playful animation.

Ⅰ. Design Concept

1.Animation Design

In this project, the primary focus is on designing the animation, making it an animation-driven endeavor. I conducted animation tests across various software platforms to accommodate different camera angles and object rotations. Ultimately, I opted for 3D to create the foundational animation.

2.Visual Design

Given the playful nature of the animation's texture, I aimed for a visual style that is cute, childish, and playful. I chose "Alice in Wonderland" as the theme because of its romantic, interesting, and imaginative qualities.I chose the risograph texture, which I really like. However, it requires a significant amount of time in reality. I wonder if there's a more efficient way to simulate the risograph style.

Ⅱ. Material

How can I achieve a risograph-style effect in 3D software?

Initially, I considered using a cartoon shader. However, through testing, I found it to be too computationally intensive and too uniform in its appearance. I was looking for a texture with more randomness. Additionally, I realized that my work wouldn't be heavily influenced by lighting, so I didn't need to focus too much on shadow effects.

As a result, I decided to create the texture in Substance 3D Painter. To have more control over the colors, I also opted to draw the shadows in Substance 3D Painter, allowing for a more cohesive and customizable visual style.

Ⅲ. Compositing

I rendered the elements in Cinema 4D and opted to composite them in After Effects to avoid the shadows being reflected on the background board.

In After Effects, I used a paper texture to enhance the blending of the 3D elements with the background. Additionally, I created the typography directly in After Effects.

For added detail, I also incorporated cel animation using Rough Animator on a tablet.
